ASHRAE SOUTH AFRICA CHAPTER ENGAGES CESA
AON EXCELLENCE AWARDS
Consulting Engineers South Africa ’ s CESA AON Engineering Excellence Awards celebrates and showcases the innovation , quality , outstanding workmanship and professionalism in the industry , and this year gained a new category .
By designing state of the art infrastructure that stands the test of time , the awards recognise the contribution that engineering practitioners make in the pursuit of excellence in service delivery . The awards also focus on consulting engineers and their clients who participate in or initiate projects that promote the advancement of our nation and the people of the continent .
The new category , initiated and sponsored by ASHRAE SA Chapter , titled ‘ Engineering Technology and Innovation – HVAC In Building Design ’, has been added to the Awards to recognise Mechanical & Electrical ( M & E ) innovation and now offers engineering companies in this space the opportunity to showcase their work .

AOS Consulting Engineers , as the only entrant in the new awards category put forward their work for a new Orange Data Centre and Office in Botswana , receiving a commendation .
This project detail was Orange Botswana appointed the professional team of AOS-GBK to build a new data centre and offices on Plot 74911 at the Botswana Innovation Hub Technology Park . The data centre will be used to host existing and future telecom and IT equipment .
The request for proposal initially required an office space for 30 employees and a 600m ² white space with auxiliary service and functions . Bidders were to provide two proposals :
• single storey with provision for an additional floor in the future ,
• double storey .

• Subsequently , the proposal transformed into a single-storey building with office space for 25 employees and a 200m ² white space with auxiliary service and functions .
Initially , only 119.98m ² of the white space with a ‘ meet-me room ’ of 42.14m ² would be fitted out with the following :
• access flooring
• suspended ceiling
• mechanical and electrical services to ensure a functional data centre for the telecom and IT equipment .
1 and 2 : The entry for the new category by AOS Consulting Engineers was the new Orange data centre in Botswana .
