RACA Journal: ISSN 1812-772X Hot and chilled READY, SET, GO! I t’s February and things are starting to pick up. As many of you are now officially back, things are slowly getting back to normal. I hope everyone had a fantastic summer. ‘Normal’ of course meaning, meeting tight deadlines, chasing clients, putting out fires and coming to terms with all the government changes – you know, the usual. Things ended off on a bit of a high in the industry towards the end of 2019, many shared projects they’re working on and are set for completion in the first half of this year. I am hopeful that a lot of other projects will get the green light this year, especially those that were put on hold. The resilience of the industry is nothing short of admirable, as there is a sense of community and so much help available to help if you are in distress or just need to know more. SARACCA, SAIRAC, ASHRAE, are a few of the places that professionals can go to should you require any help. And it is only through seeking information and speaking to the right people that the industry grows and does better and better. The SAIRAC Cape Town centre took the time to reflect on the year that was and outlined what 2020 looks like in a social setting at Kelvin Grove Country Club. Read about their success of 2019 and what to expect this year on page 18. With about 16 months until FRIGAIR 2021, it’s full steam ahead! Sign-ups are coming in fast, so book now to avoid disappointment. The last show had over 4 100 visitors walking through 151 exhibits. The Show was also filled with 136 international visitors from different parts of the world. For FRIGAIR 2021, ASHRAE workshops and SAIRAC forums will still feature, offering the best of local and international trends and innovations. Organisers of the Show and myself, attended the AHR Expo in Orlando, Florida. Attending the Expo gave us a whole lot of ideas! If you have any ideas, suggestions or recommendations – I’m all ears. Send an email to the address at the bottom of the page. Right, so the February issue covers a spectrum of industry topics. A lot of companies are innovating and playing an active role in changing their way of doing things – Johnson Controls hosted an exclusive innovation day, unpacking its vision to save the earth with technology. We attended the event and found it informative – read more on page 10. Draeger business development manager, Devon Marks, gives insight on medical gas management – a topic not often given attention but incredibly critical in the healthcare sector. He shares the state of medical gas management and what needs to be done to improve it on page 26. It’s rare to see young people participating and excelling where they’re planted. David la Grange is one such individual who is doing so. He shares more with us about the WorldSkills competition on page 5. Well done to all who played a role in ensuring he had the best training before landing in Russia, let’s keep it up!
