VICTOR VASARELY :
The Father of Op Art
Victor Vasarely,
French artist
of Hungarian
decent, is a
leading figure
of Op Art.
What is Op Art?
Op Art stands for optical art. It is an art movement that started
at the end of the 1950’s. However, it wasn’t until 1964, after
the New York MoMA exhibition “The Responsive Eye”, that the
term was officially coined. This exhibition propelled this abstract
art movement in Europe and in the United States.
