VICTOR VASARELY : The Father of Op Art Victor Vasarely, French artist of Hungarian decent, is a leading figure of Op Art. What is Op Art? Op Art stands for optical art. It is an art movement that started at the end of the 1950’s. However, it wasn’t until 1964, after the New York MoMA exhibition “The Responsive Eye”, that the term was officially coined. This exhibition propelled this abstract art movement in Europe and in the United States.
