Delivering a

MemorableToast

Congratulations you have been asked by the bride or groom to honor them with a toast on the biggest day of their lives thus far and you want it to be incredible and believe me , they do too . Here are just a few simple suggestions that will help make your toast unforgettable , for all the right reasons .

* As you begin to put your thoughts on paper , remember that it is not a speech . Keep the attention and the focal point on the occasion and the guests of honor .
* Keep it brief , this is not all about you , cover the very best points and be done , 2-3 minutes is probably enough time to offer a great toast . Leave them wanting more , rather than hoping you ’ ll shut up soon .
* Keep it “ Rated P . G .”. Watch your language . If you want to share a story , always make sure it ’ s something you would share with your own mother .
* Do not indulge in too much alcohol leading up to your toast . Alcohol may make you THINK you ’ re a better speaker , but it probably makes you think you ’ re a better dancer too . Hang-overs , headaches , and lack of judgement are not pretty at a wedding .
Don ’ t be that kind of person : * You do not need to introduce yourself . A professional MC will command the room ’ s attention and then introduce you and the other toasters . Do not begin with , “ Hi , for those of you who don ’ t know me , I am …”, you have already been introduced .
* Don ’ t be nervous . This isn ’ t public speaking . You are speaking to a private gathering of family and friends , not making a speech for everyone to evaluate .
* Do not talk about how much you hate “ public speaking ” or “ doing this kind of thing . Remember that this is a privilege and should be treated as one , and not as a painful task . These kinds of unsavory remarks are a negative way to begin a very positive moment and make the toast about you instead of about the bride and groom .
* Do not discuss negative topics , like breakups , past girlfriends , cheating , divorce , etc .
* DO NOT attempt to drop the mic , most couples have signed a contract to replace the mic if it is dropped . The couple will be charged $ 1000.00 or more for mandatory replacement if you do . Plus , it is a good way to lose a friendship .
