BEST PRACTICES IN MIDWIFERY EDUCATION: We believe collegial sharing of information, resources, and ideas among programs promotes consistent quality. RECOMMENDATIONS: • Enhance collaboration among midwifery educators to develop evidence-based TRANSITION TO PRACTICE: New graduates report difficulty in being considered for jobs, obtaining residency programs, and navigating state licensure. RECOMMENDATIONS: • Outline of the certification process on the ACNM student webpage. • Include students in ACNM’s strategic planning to facilitate hospital credentialing. • Prepare for certification and hospital privileging early in educational programs. • Give more workshops/webinars on the roadmap through graduation, certification, and first job. • Continue ACNM Residency/Internship Task Force and the option of residency/ internship programs for new grads. PRECEPTOR AVAILABILITY: Limited preceptor availability and professional liability requirements limit the number of student positions available. RECOMMENDATIONS: • Develop a “Push for Preceptors” Day. • Create a service to match potential preceptors with students. • Add interested midwives to the preceptor database. • Consider incentives for preceptors. RECOMMENDATIONS: • Involve students and recent graduates in discussions regarding inclusion of CMs in the Medicare Equity provision and plans toward inclusion of CM students in the HRSA loan repayment program. • Highlight the CM pathway when addressing preceptor issues and provide materials about the CM pathway. • Have ACNM’s affiliates consider opportunities for both SMs and SNMs in the advancement of the CM credential.?
