5 paw-fect ways to include your fur baby

our good boy as best man ? Dog of honour perhaps ? Adorable . Because our fur babies are family , it ’ s no surprise more and more couples are including pets in their wedding with a significant role . Okay , let ’ s say a starring role . Because if you think an awestruck flower girl is a scene-stealer , just wait until your four-legged BFF comes bucketing down the aisle !
We ’ ve seen wide-eyed cats in carriers and brides on horseback — but , by in large , it ’ s our precious pups who come through as the wedding day MVPs . Makes sense . Not only are they more likely to cope with the excitement of a wedding , dogs might actually enjoy the day rather than endure it . Here ’ s a few handy tips for including a fur baby in your wedding — without derailing the celebrations !

First things first

Before you get carried away with images of your terrier in a tux , check with your venue to ensure fluffballs are welcome . Many allow dogs at the ceremony but not the reception . And if you ’ re doing a ceremony rehearsal , include your dog in the walk through to help put everyone at ease .
Other important things to consider are : Do any of your guests , particularly wedding party , have pet allergies ? Will your pup be up for all the noise and excitement of a wedding ? Is there someone your pet trusts who can take on paw patrol ( don ’ t worry if not , there ’ s a pet service for that !).

Well-behaved dogs can double as ring bearers , flower girls or attendants , melting hearts as they trot proudly down the aisle . Have them wait at the ceremony site with a groomsman so they can gallop down the aisle to meet you . Or ask a bridesmaid to walk them in before you . And even if you don ’ t quite trust your pup to carry the actual rings , a groomsman can keep the game going by producing the ring box at the last minute .
TIP : Ask a friend or family member your pet trusts to play chaperone . Or chat to your celebrant or venue about specialists such as First Class Pet Wedding Assistants who will keep your precious pooch safe ( and tidy ) while you enjoy the moment .
