RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

Elevate your event into a feast for the senses with these expert tips .

1

Take guests on a journey

A multisensory wedding unfolds a little like a good movie . Meaning every creative detail is important — but so is the run sheet . Work with your planner to ensure there are no ‘ dead spots ’ in the program and time for everyone to enjoy the ride . Legendary NYC event planner Marcy Blum sums it up perfectly . “ A good wedding should have physical flow and build to a crescendo that doesn ’ t drop ,” she told the New York Times . “ And unexpected things should be constantly happening that will delight guests and take the event to another level .” A top tip ? Get guests involved ! Think post-ceremony confetti showers and sparklers for the first dance or reception exit . We ’ re not ruling out a return of the dance floor conga line either .

3

Engage rather than overwhelm

Amplify the key elements rather than taking a scattergun approach with less impact . For example , if you adore flowers , create a focal point with an aerial installation or lush arbour . Then echo this floral selection in your tablescape and bouquet . If you ’ re not confident creating a harmonious whole , bring in a wedding planner or stylist . Having a pro on board will help you pull off your dream scheme .

2

Ace your location

The right location will deliver on all sensory fronts . Whether it ’ s birdsong , lush vistas , and the kiss of crisp mountain air in the hinterland or the modern buzz of an inner-city celebration . Melinda Gannan from leading Sunshine Coast wedding and events company , First Class Functions , knows the value of a dreamy setting .
“ The right location is key to creating a multisensory feel ,” she says . “ We work with a lot of couples who choose one of the Sunshine Coast ’ s outdoor ceremony locations for this reason . You can activate all the senses with the sound of the ocean , the warmth of the sun , the salty smell of the beach , and , if you are lucky , the sight of a bush turkey watching over your ceremony !”

Trending tip Celestial celebrations are here ( just ask Pinterest ).
Work the full-moon theme with star-spangled invites and details , a midnight-blue base palette , and glittering accents threaded throughout . Add a tarot reader , crackling firepit , and live music for an event that ’ s out of this world .
