What is the retort?
The Quarterly Retort is a one night comedy festival held in the resplendent Revolt artspace in Kensington, Melbourne.
Held every three months, the aim of the Quarterly Retort is to remount
shows which appeared in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival to
give audiences a chance to see the shows either again or for the first time.
With 450 shows in the 2014 MICF, there is a high probability that audiences will value a remounting of a show they may have missed out on during
the busiest time in the comedy calendar.
The Quarterly Retort is held every three months and provides an exciting
vehicle though out the year.
Who are we?
Started in 2009, The Retort began in a bar setting in the heart of Brunswick. Today, it has found it’s home in a theatre setting in Kensington,
where we look forward to establishing a new hub for the Melbourne comedy scene.
The people who bring the Quarterly Retort to Melbourne audiences are
the same people behind a host of other Melbourne comedy related projects. YAWP online comedy magazine and it’s associate room, The Good
Hurt are adjoining projects which work together to build the comedy
scene today and for the years ahead.
Why WE RETORT!
We Retort because we love comedy! The idea to remount performer’s
shows is not a new idea but is not routinely staged in the Melbourne
scene. We are proud to provide that opportunity to Australian comedians at a good industry rate with broadcast quality film and production
options so the performers can use this show as a launching pad to further promote their brand.
We are proud and excited as a production body to support comedy in
Australia in a way that has not been provided for in the market in quite
a while.
