the $3,300 check at the 2018 Spring Budget Workshop in April 2018.

“True Charity is the desire to be useful to others with no thought of recompense.”

― Emanuel Swedenborg

The fiscal year is rapidly coming to an end and I am certain we all have a lot of accomplishments of which we can be proud. We can all be proud of the joint effort of business officials in the State of New Mexico in our Social Responsibility Campaign. As I have preached before, I know that school business officials are some of the most selfless and giving individuals in our communities. I love to see us come together in a way that is visible to the public so they can have some insight into how we do so much to help children.

If you attended Spring Budget Workshop, you had the opportunity to see the fruition of the 2017-2018 Social Responsibility Campaign when we presented a check to The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) in the amount of $3,300. My heart goes out to you all for making this happen. As stated before, their mission: “Keeping families with sick children close to each other and the care and resources they need”. Put simply, if your family hasn’t benefited from this organization, a family you know has. While we will never know the multiple families helped by the monies we raised, it brings me, and I hope you, a lot of joy to know that moms and dads out there

are having their burden lessened and can focus on the well being of their children because of the money we raised.

Our efforts on behalf of RMHC was our 3rd Annual Social Responsibility Campaign and I hope you all agree that the check presentation is one of the highlights of our Spring Budget Workshop each year. We continue to make great strides for children. Our first year was Coats for Kids and we raised $2,500. Our second year was for NM Make a Wish Foundation and we raised $5,000. All of these are wonderful organizations that help children in every corner of our great State. Now I invite you all to give some thoughts to an organization that does the same and bombard NMASBO with your suggestion of an organization that we can help in the 2018-2019 Social Responsibility Campaign. Nothing would make me happier than if we had so many great suggestions that we had to vote for which one to do next year.

As we wrap things up this year, I just want to conclude with a big thank you to all you for being you. When I meet people and they ask what I do, I am always proud to say that I am School Business Official because I am part of a select group of dedicated individuals. So, be proud of yourselves business officials; you are vital people in your communities and they are fortunate to have you.

Providing Comfort and Care when families need it most. Many families travel far from home and spend several weeks or months to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children – a long time to be away or to divide a family. And, for children facing a serious medical crisis, nothing seems scarier than not having a parent close by for love and support. Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico provides that “Home-away-from-home".
