Environment affect quarries and mines.
This was followed by Deloitte Monitor’s
Andrew Lane explaining that the latest
(2018) Deloitte survey of top issues
keeping mining executives awake all night
saw for the first time ‘Bringing Digital to
Life’ as the number one issue. He believes
that after a slow build up, mining is at
the same point of explosive technological
innovation that telecommunications was
at the establishment of mobile telecoms
more than 20 years ago.
“It is here now, and it is going to be
huge,” he says.
One exhibitor, Gigi Mazzocco, CEO of
mining, industrial and construction firm
P&R Equipment, was on hand at his stand
throughout the five days, and enthused,
“We got lots of interest from many
engineers and other plant managers. We
[are] exhibiting a lifting machine called
Drakam Rolling Power that is unique in
the world. We have the sole distributorship
so we are sure that sales will materialise.
This machine can lift up to 100t and push
and pull up to 200t. Also, lots of interest in
our lifting trolleys that can pull and push
any cargo. We [are] also sole distributors
for Guardian Robot machine that can
replace guards in any factory’s or mine’s
[premises]. We also have a tagging radio
control system that can detect a body
under mines that have collapsed.
“The show was good,” says Mazzocco.
The feedback from other stands was
equally positive. A representative of
Paramount Tracks said, “Expos are
worthwhile to attend because you meet
the right people. It was really good, and we
had good traffic coming to our stand.”
Eazi Access Solutions said, “Our time
here has been great. Since Monday we’ve
seen clients and prospective clients
enquiring about our products. It’s been
busy, and our demonstrations are also a hit.”
A stand manager at Manitou said,
“We have on display the first ever battery
powered telehandler that can be attached
to anything and be operated in any
environment. The machine has been well
received and visitors experienced our 20-
year journey in mining innovation.”
HPE Africa also saw a lot of traffic at
their stand and was happy with the overall
response to equipment on display by
visitors.
