climate of the present day would not be
of value if an issue such as the Mining
Charter was not discussed. Aspasa had
asked Sibongile Kunene to cover this
issue of a summary of the Charter in an
easy way of understanding and she did
this very well. The issue of smaller mines
was highlighted. At the end of the day,
the conference was again a great success.

The Aspasa awards evening, the
second time this has been held in
this manner, remains something
new and different in the industry.
Pienaar explains that the awards
are a tremendous accolade for a
winning individual, operation, or a
company, as the case may be. “Aspasa
each year gives out awards for those
operations, employees, and managers
who are ‘special’. It has become a great
recognition among quarry employees to
receive one of these awards. The belief
