Aspasa to increase training offerings in 2017

The Aggregate and Sand Producers Association of Southern Africa ( Aspasa ) is increasing its training offering for members to underpin industry standards and improve workforce skills .
According to association director Nico Pienaar , the existing seminar and workshop schedule will be expanded to include courses that provide intensive , hands-on , industryrelevant education . “ It will be a great opportunity for attendees to learn from expert trainers and share ideas with people from other companies who might be facing similar challenges ,” he says .
The courses will be costeffective and available throughout southern Africa wherever there is sufficient interest . “ We invite Aspasa members , customers , and those involved in the opencast quarrying industry to add to the growing list of courses that have been planned for 2017 thus far , and to comment on information required and course material ,” adds Pienaar . “ Everybody is welcome to send us their ideas so that we can give the industry the type of training that it needs , where and when it is needed .”
Popular and frequently run courses covering health and safety , environment , risk , transport , quality , legal , and HR / IR will continue , with the number and the content being updated in line with new requirements . The association

also plans to run courses on crushing , explosives , lockout procedure , TMM / PDS , sales , supervisory training , first aid , emergency evacuation , HIRA , root cause analysis , SHE incident investigation , safety for senior executives , rock breaking , and blasting .
Hands-on vocational-type training will also be available in the form of study tours and workshops on financial management for quarry managers ; vetting contractors ; basics of supply and control ; construction material sampling and testing ; operating mobile machinery ; and specifying suitable , cost-effective fleets of equipment within the quarry environment .
