BUSINESS
S
ince its foundation in 1919, the
company has grown and evolved.

accredited company and recognised
as a leading name in global mining and
quarry markets and one of South Africa’s
foremost manufacturers of equipment for
these industries.
Osborn offers a full range of engineering
products, including crushers, feeders and
screens, as well as crushing and screening
modular plants. Osborn’s experience

Osborn Engineered Products MD Johan
Goosen explains that we live in a world
that is experiencing continuous change at a
pace and of a disruptive nature not known
previously. “Osborn has a long and proud
association with the mining and quarrying
industries in South Africa. At one point in
Osborn’s history it was owned by Anglo
American. You will not find many mines
that do not have Osborn equipment, with
aggregate producers at large in South
Africa having an extensive range of Osborn
equipment in their operations.
“Throughout its history Osborn has
produced high quality products that

can withstand the demanding operating
conditions of African mines. Although we are
a subsidiary of Astec Industries, a US-listed
company, Osborn is a proudly South African
OEM and our ability to provide customised
products to the local market has stood us in
good stead. Our organisational stability and
track record of providing reliable products
with competent aftermarket support installs
confidence with our customers. To put it
in simple terms: our customers like doing
business with us.”
He believes through innovation, the
company’s future is just as bright: “We
measure our plans against our objective

of sustainable profitable growth. There are
opportunities to grow market share in the
South African market, which we are actively
pursuing, but in the long term we want
to increase our footprint in international
markets. We are confident that revenue from
international business will exceed revenue
from South Africa within the next five years,
keeping in mind that we expect our revenue
from South African business to continue to
grow,” says Goosen.
“As we go forward the intensity of change
will become higher and higher. Businesses
will have a hard time surviving if they do
not sensitise themselves towards the change
