Ghanaian vice president Dr Mahamdu
Bawumia has commissioned a USD30-million
cement factory at the Dawa Industrial Enclave
near Tema in Ghana, according to the Ghana
News Agency. Iranian Agricultural Minister
Mahmoud Hojjati was also present at the
commissioning ceremony for the factory,
which is a joint venture between Ghana and
Iran, following the signing of an MoU between
the two countries earlier this year. Iran owns
90% of the shares in the project, while Ghana
has the remaining 10%. The factory is expected
to be completed in two years, and will have an
annual production capacity of 600 000t. Dr
Bawumia says the project, which reflects the
economic dimension of the relations between
Iran and Ghana, will boost the nation’s
infrastructural drive, create jobs and help make
the price of cement competitive.
