Reducing sepsis-related mortality will remain an institutional goal for FY2018 . As such , the UAB Care clinical effectiveness team will continue to engage in the “ War on Sepsis ” to further reduce sepsisrelated mortality . These efforts will include continued engagement and education of clinical teams on the CODE Sepsis process , staying up to date on the latest evidence supporting effective sepsis treatment , and refinement of the CODE Sepsis process to effectively support our care teams . In addition to improving the CODE Sepsis processes within the hospital , the UAB Care clinical effectiveness team plans to expand sepsis care-related activities to include engaging with our communities through the development of targeted patient- and family-specific educational content and through partnerships with referring hospitals to facilitate the effective transition of septic patients who require treatment at UAB Hospital .

“ Our efforts are only beginning , and our care teams now recognize the significance of the challenge of identifying and treating sepsis within our hospitals ,” says Loring Rue , MD , chief medical officer . “ That said , our ultimate success will be defined by our ability to not only treat patients with sepsis when they come to our hospitals , but also by partnering with other hospitals and promoting greater education about the risks of sepsis to the community at large . That will be the challenge for our organization and also for other hospitals across the nation as we place greater emphasis on reducing the number of sepsis cases and increasing the effectiveness of treatment when required .” |
