QFFL Auction Draft Preview

With QFFL training camps in full swing, it is time to take a look at how teams are setting up for the Auction Draft on August 31st. It is a year of haves and have nots with 6 teams projecting to have a net starting cap of under $200 while 6 others should have $300 plus to spend after signing day. The 2010 championship team of Team RIP does not have any remaining players from that squad but they are the gross cap leader heading in and are setting up nicely to dominate the draft early this year. They have needs at RB and WR but will be able to dictate the pace early this year. ANBA enters 2013 after a dismal campaign last year and the final year of Rodgers contract. Their needs are plenty at RB/WR/TE but should able to grab 1-2 blue chip players. This franchise is shrouded in secrecy so only they know who will actually be on their team when the draft officially opens. The High Rollers finished a dismal 2-11 last year and as a result, they make the first call out. True to their name, they like to go big so expect one of the elite RBs to come out of the gate early. They have been hit early with injuries and need RB/WRs but will try to build around Bradford and Romo in a year where you do not want to need a QB. The Gardenstate Warriors tale of two seasons last year ended rather abruptly. They took the league by storm through October but faded down the stretch. They project to have almost $400 to spend this year and will need a RB and 2 WRs to play alongside Ryan, White and Gonzalez in Atlanta. They are primed for another deep run into the playoffs. The Fighting Commodes are excited about their prospects this year as they expect a big jump from Cam Newton in his third year.

Much has been made about Lam Miller in the offseason and he has a ton of upside, plus their acquisition of Julio Jones should pay huge dividends in the passing game. They uncharacteristically come in with about $400 to spend this year and only need to nail down a top RB and WR to go along with this cast. There is every reason to think that this team will be in the playoff hunt all year. The Bombers come off another lost season and continue to try to find a QB to lead their squad. They went young last year with a lot on the shoulders of their RBs who are all 3 years or less in the league. Their trade of CJ to the Champ is Here netted them Demaryius Thomas and will pay big dividends in 2013. They need a QB but what else is new, especially in a year where there is a dearth of talent at the QB spot. The Champ is Here built his championship team at the draft in 2012 with youth and experience and will look to do the same as he defends his title and goes for the unprecedented back to back feat this season.

QFFLInsider/August, 2013

Four time champ Big Tuna comes in fully loaded for this season after coming within inches of grabbing one for the thumb in 2012. Their semi-finals loss was a tough one to swallow but building around Manning, Charles, Cobb and Marshall is a good way to alleviate the hurt. It is rare to see the Tuna coming in with the lowest cap space so perhaps the cigar will have to wait until they grab their star DT at around 4:30 this y ear. The Magic Bus fell in the QBowl last year and was not able to become only the 5th multiple QBowl champion. They are thankfully very solid at QB entering the draft and have enough cash to make some noise and get back to the playoffs once again. They project to be in on the bidding for a top WR or two but could surprise as they usually do in the later part of the afternoon's action.
