Introduction:
writing is hard. It's a difficult process which at may first seem easy, you'll be brimming with ideas, your hand is twitching to write it all down. However, time passes and you run out of the ideas you were once overflowing with and eventually, you also run out of the cliches and all you're left with is a brain as blank as the paper in front of you. That's when the real writing starts, and trust me, it ain't no cake. But, it's also because of this that when you write a piece worthy of being published that you can call yourself a real writer. I'm currently at the stage where you're banging your head against the wall.
In this fourth quarter, I had run out of ideas and prompts to write about. It's funny, at the start of the year I had all of the ideas but lacked the skills and now that I’ve finally managed to develop those skills I've run out of things to write about. Life is a funny b!@$% like that. Which perfectly sums up my portfolio and why I named it "The Unfunny Joke I call my life". As for my quotation I chose a quote by Ivan Lendl;" I enjoy life. I always enjoy jokes." I really liked that quote because it went perfectly with my title, my portfolio and the message I was trying to convey. Life is unpredictable and filled with stupid and silly things. It takes turns which you might not expect. One day it could all be roses and sunshine and the next you are dumpster diving for
bagels. It's all a joke, and not necesarily good one.
I organized my portfolio so that you can see the pieces which talk about life and the different experiences with it first and then it gradually changes so that it ends with death. I chose this order because, first, I noticed I had a lot of pieces about death so what better way to finish a story than with a permanent death? In between there are a lot of silly pieces to show the funny quirks that appear throught a persons life. A lot of my pieces have dark themes like suicide, drugs and cancer which are hidden under bad humor and silly facades.
I hope you enjoy my portfolio and have a laugh or two.
