The Quiristers led the choir from the front
with customary clarity and precision. Their
voices were prominent throughout the choral
sections, from a strong entrance with, And The
Glory of the Lord, through a dexterous rendition
of the chorus, His Yoke is Easy. The whole choir
flourished under the accomplished direction
of David Thomas, and their execution of the
superb, swelling crescendo in Surely, He Hath
Borne Our Griefs was a highlight to make

were split evenly in two as to the decision of
whether to stand or sit!
The orchestra did well to produce an
authentic sound throughout, giving the
soloists quietly measured, yet clear support
in their arias. The team of Malcolm Archer
(harpsichord) and Jamal Sutton (chamber
organ) supported the piece throughout with
natural precision, and the continuo playing of

both orchestra and choir in unison, produced
a head on meeting of the traditional and the

What an enthralling way to enter the season
of good will. Good will!
The performance grew in momentum and
confidence as it progressed towards the
Amen chorus, delivered without fuss, but
with feeling and conviction, accompanied by
brilliant trumpets, to the rousing climax that
was rapturously greeted by long-sustained
and sincere applause from a thoroughly
appreciative audience.
