Manchester Cathedral entrance
The next day we were treated to a fascinating
visit to the Museum of Science and Industry,
rich in the history of Victorian Manchester
and the dominance of the cotton industry.
There was so much to see, something for
everyone, including a very early gas-fuelled
four-stroke engine demonstration which
captivated us all. Then it was on to Blackburn
Cathedral, one of England’s newest
cathedrals, for evensong with their choir.
The Robertson Prize for all-round
contribution to the choir:
Tristan Wigley
The Nicholas Stenning Cup for the most
improved musical ability:
Hamish Rogers
The Ford-Sagers Cup for instrumental
work:
Thomas Sharrock
On our final day the Quiristers sang in
Emmanuel Church in Didsbury, first to
broadcast for BBC Radio 4 Daily Service, and
then to record a second Daily Service and
Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols.
The Sever Cup for the outstanding
Quirister sportsman:
Tristan Wigley
In true Quirister tradition, we all worked
extremely hard and had a lot of fun too.
The Wigley Cup for the all-rounder who
has made contributions in academics,
sport and music:
