Foreword
A few words from
the Ambassador
I am delighted to present the second edition of the Q Magazine, showcasing
Qatar’s ambitious 2030 National Vision (QNV 2030) to transform and diversify
into a knowledge-based economy.
Launched nearly ten years ago, QNV 2030 sets a roadmap for our future – one
that puts social, human, environmental and economic development at the forefront
of our growth. At the core of this plan is our goal to create a society in Qatar that is
inclusive and benefits all citizens and residents. But we could not have set out
on such an important journey without the help of our international allies – such
as Britain.
The UK has always played a critical role in developing Qatar’s economy. Now they
are helping us transform it into one based on knowledge and innovation. In March
this year, during the Qatar-UK Business & Investment Forum, UK Prime Minister
Theresa May solidified this historic relationship with a new Memorandum of
Understanding between the State of Qatar and the UK Government.
The Forum itself was a testament to both countries’ enduring commitment to one
another’s future progress, and I was honoured to see our National Vision at the
forefront of many of the discussions throughout the two-day event.
In this spirit, the second edition of Q Magazine will explore how Qatar – and its
partners – are making our National Vision a reality. As we saw at the Qatar-UK
Forum, achieving our Vision will require more than just economic investment.
It is about fostering and exchanging knowledge and ideas.
This idea of human and social exchange – particularly between Qatar and the
UK – is a common theme among many of the stories. They take in English
Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur’s partnership with Aspetar, Qatar’s
FIFA-accredited Medical Centre of Excellence, and Qatar National Research
Fund and the UK Government’s work to bring together hundreds of Qatari
and UK researchers.
We are incredibly proud of the progress we have already made towards achieving
our 2030 Vision and I’m delighted to share just some of these stories with you here.
