Qatar and the UK | Qatar Charity UK Qatar Charity is Qatar’s largest NGO and focuses its work on humanitarian and development programmes to fight global poverty – regardless of faith, race, gender, or political beliefs. Since 1992, Qatar Charity has empowered communities across the world to shape their own future, and now, Qatar Charity UK is doing the same in Britain. Q atar Charity’s UK branch, QCUK, works to support and empower the most disadvantaged people in the UK and continental Europe through social and economic advancement. To achieve this, it has set itself the ambitious goal of becoming the main charitable partner for businesses in Britain. QCUK provides investors and companies a platform to increase the effectiveness of their corporate social responsibility activities and philanthropic contributions. In light of the ongoing Syrian conflict, QCUK has worked closely with British organisations to provide holistic support packages to refugees resettling in the UK. In Birmingham, QCUK has supported Syrian refugees by providing job assistance, English language classes, trauma counselling, and economic support. QCUK has also been working with the Refugee Council, one of Britain’s leading refugee charities, to support 195 Syrian children and families in the UK. Their joint “New Neighbours Programme” provides English and maths classes, professional development workshops, and therapeutic support to Syrian refugees in the UK. Looking beyond refugee resettlement, QCUK views education as the key to a better future. By launching the “Educational Empowerment Programme,” QCUK supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and follows them throughout their education – ensuring they have the support needed to succeed. QCUK represents yet another platform for Qatari-British collaboration, and one where both countries can work together to empower communities in the UK, and around the globe. 21
