From the CEO - Lindsay Ellis
Welcome to the Winter edition of the Q Golf Magazine.
As we head towards the colder season of the
year, now is the perfect time to start looking
into summer holiday destinations perfect for
the family, and a golfing trip. With 1.9 million
Australians over 14 years playing golf either
regularly or occasionally, golfing holidays are
set to surge in popularity.
The latest findings from Roy Morgan Research
show that “people who play golf either
regularly or occasionally are considerably
more likely than the average Australian to
name Queensland as the state they’d most
like to visit on holiday in the next two years:
49.6% compared with the population average
of 40.6%.
“Among the Queensland destinations more
likely to appeal to golfers than the average
Australian are: Noosa, with 59% of Aussie
golfers more likely to name the Sunshine Coast
destination as somewhere they would like to
take a holiday, Surfers Paradise as 41% more
likely and Cairns 24% more likely.”
Each of these destinations boasts a diverse
range of golf courses and resorts to attract the
perfect holiday maker with the desire to relax
in scenic surroundings on and off the course.
These statistics demonstrate that a person’s
sporting interests can influence the kind of
holiday destinations that appeal to them.
At Golf Queensland, we are dedicated to
fostering and promoting the game all across
Queensland with our 21 state championship
events hosted over a calibre of Queensland
courses.
The end of this month will see a new
beginning for the inaugural QLD Boys’ and
Girls’ Amateur moving to Bargara Golf Club.
Over 150 juniors and their families will make
the journey to the Golf Wide Bay District to tee
it up at the new venue with the tournament
set to be bigger than ever.
There are also 18 Queensland Districts each
hosting their own open Championships
throughout the year attracting golfers of all
skill levels.
Why not make your next holiday a golfing
holiday with the upcoming Golf Queensland
State Championships visiting Quilpie
and Texas Golf Clubs for the Men’s and
Women’s Sand Green Championships, as
well as visiting Royal Pines for the Men’s
Mid-Amateur Championship in September.
After the outstanding success of Women’s
Country Championship in May with 352 ladies
participating, Men’s Country Week is also
heading to Redcliffe in August which is sure to
be a great event.
So next time you decided to visit your local
coast, or travel to the far parts of Queensland,
don’t forget your clubs!
Happy golfing,
Lindsay Ellis
