Wrap Up: 2012 Queensland Golf Forum Golf Queensland hosted over 100 industry leaders at the recent Queensland Golf Forum held at Victoria Park Golf Complex on Tuesday, 13 March. The forum was a resounding success, with many participants providing positive feedback on the outstanding agenda and networking opportunities available on the day. The day’s guest speaker was Jack Newton who provided an inspirational insight into his life and career in the golfing world. Newton also talked about the importance of change within the industry, including making the game more of a family environment and providing junior programs for children, as they are our future. Eric Porter, Workplace Relations Manager at Clubs Queensland, gave warning to the audience that clubs face being caught out by the Fair Work Ombudsman if they are not complying with legislation. Clubs Queensland has templates and checklists available for clubs to ensure that they do not risk significant fines. Brian Kunde (Development Manager at Club Insurance Queensland) presented the insurance and risk management session. Kunde placed significant emphasis on ensuring that even small clubs are managing their risks efficiently. With recent flood damage, Queensland clubs have had difficulty with insurance and are increasingly concerned about escalating costs. Club Insurance Queensland will not only get clubs the best deals on insurance, but also educate clubs on risk management. Growing the Game Specialist, Grant Garrison, then spoke about the importance of growing and developing the game of golf. Garrison is passionate about making the game fun and attractive for children in order to bring more juniors into the game. the highly popular ClubScorecard, a club diagnostic tool. Golf Queensland’s Chief Executive Officer, Lindsay Ellis, wrapped up the forum by leaving it up to the audience to decide how they would utilise the ideas raised and turn them into positives. “The fact that you’re here today means that it’s important and that you want to do something for your club,” Ellis said. We all recognise the value of volunteers within the golf industry. Volunteering Qld’s Vanessa Codling presented on volunteering opportunities available for clubs. Both the older and younger demographics are available for volunteering opportunities plus a range of expertise within Volunteering Qld’s online pool of volunteers.
