Wrap Up: 2012 Queensland Golf Forum
Golf Queensland hosted over 100 industry
leaders at the recent Queensland Golf Forum
held at Victoria Park Golf Complex on Tuesday,
13 March. The forum was a resounding
success, with many participants providing
positive feedback on the outstanding agenda
and networking opportunities available on
the day.
The day’s guest speaker was Jack Newton who
provided an inspirational insight into his life
and career in the golfing world. Newton also
talked about the importance of change within
the industry, including making the game more
of a family environment and providing junior
programs for children, as they are our future.
Eric Porter, Workplace Relations Manager
at Clubs Queensland, gave warning to the
audience that clubs face being caught out by
the Fair Work Ombudsman if they are not
complying with legislation. Clubs Queensland
has templates and checklists available
for clubs to ensure that they do not risk
significant fines.
Brian Kunde (Development Manager at
Club Insurance Queensland) presented the
insurance and risk management session.
Kunde placed significant emphasis on
ensuring that even small clubs are managing
their risks efficiently. With recent flood
damage, Queensland clubs have had difficulty
with insurance and are increasingly concerned
about escalating costs. Club Insurance
Queensland will not only get clubs the best
deals on insurance, but also educate clubs on
risk management.
Growing the Game Specialist, Grant Garrison,
then spoke about the importance of growing
and developing the game of golf. Garrison is
passionate about making the game fun and
attractive for children in order to bring more
juniors into the game.
the highly popular ClubScorecard, a club
diagnostic tool.
Golf Queensland’s Chief Executive Officer,
Lindsay Ellis, wrapped up the forum by leaving
it up to the audience to decide how they
would utilise the ideas raised and turn them
into positives.
“The fact that you’re here today means
that it’s important and that you want to do
something for your club,” Ellis said.
We all recognise the value of volunteers
within the golf industry. Volunteering Qld’s
Vanessa Codling presented on volunteering
opportunities available for clubs. Both the
older and younger demographics are available
for volunteering opportunities plus a range
of expertise within Volunteering Qld’s online
pool of volunteers.
Mike Orloff from Golf Industry Central
spoke about the importance of retaining
membership loyalty. Orloff provided the
