Pink drivers and You Tube videos a hit
The week of 2012 Masters started with
the Augusta National chair Billy Payne
heralding an initiative to “progress and
promote” the game around the world.
No-one could argue with the sentiment,
nor could they argue that Augusta hasn’t
been ahead of the curve in embracing
Asia (something not all do).
That’s the good news. The bad news is
that Payne refused to answer questions
about the club’s continuing policy of
having no women members.
You don’t have to be a philosopher to
wonder about the sense in talking about
making progress one minute and refusing
to talk about women being welcome the
next.
