But after playing more than 100 first
grade games for Souths Magpies in the
1980s, under high-profile coaches Wayne
Bennett and Bob McCarthy, Brett says the
taunts are like water off a duck’s back.
“After growing up in a rugby league
environment and playing footy with the
likes of Mal Meninga, Bob Lindner and
Gary Belcher, it wasn’t difficult to develop
a thick skin,” quipped dad Brett.
“Golf is just like any other sport – we have
our good days and our bad days. When
things go well, as they have done for the
boys and me this year, we lap it up.”
Between the three Leaso men, eight
Saturday competition victories, four
runners-up trophies and seven nearest
the pin shots have jumped in to the
trophy cabinet in the first 10 months of
2012. In all, the trio has shared more than
100 golf balls between them during their
winning streak.
They have also figured in winning
two honour board events. Brett and
Matthew were successful in the Doctor
A.D.Buchanan Memorial Fourball in June,
while Ben partnered
