On the ground at the
2012 Asia Pacific
Amateur Championship
By Bruce Young
I should have been alerted when I sat down
with talented Brisbane golfer Cameron
Smith at the Keperra Golf and Country Club
in October to discuss the upcoming Asia
Pacific Amateur Championship. Two weeks
later the event was to be played just outside
of Bangkok and I was keen to get as much
information as possible.
The organisation of the event, as you
would imagine with such significant
parties involved, surpassed many high end
professional events I have attended in the
past. It provided to not only those attending
but via a two hour live television package
to a near worldwide audience each day, an
insight into what the three organisations are
achieving for golf in the Asia Pacific region.
Smith had finished 4th in that event twelve
months earlier when played in Singapore
and having just been appointed to perform
a role as on course commentator for the
televised coverage of the event I was keen
to talk with Smith about the event and a bit
more about his own game at the time.
