Womensport Queensland Awards
Golf Queensland would like to congratulate Rebecca Kay on her
Rising Star Award at the Womensport Queensland Awards night.
Rebecca Kay has consistently gained top results over the past
year. Her ability to remain focussed and determined are traits
of a good golfer and highlights her capacity to succeed in her
chosen sport.
In February 2013, at just 14 years of age, Rebecca became the
youngest player to ever contest the Australian Ladies Masters,
teeing up alongside vastly more experienced international
golfers.
Not only is Rebecca a top golfer in individual events, she was
also a member of the champion 2013 Queensland Interstate
Team, a member of the 2012 Australian Schoolgirls Team and
a member of the Australian Youth Olympics Team, competing
against junior golfers from all over the world.
Rebecca was also awarded the prestigious Gold Coast Academy
of Sport Athlete of the Year Award in December.

Virginia Irwin is also a finalist for the Coach of the Year Award.
Virginia has been coach of the Junior Girls State Team since
2009. During this time, the team have won the Australian Girls
Interstate Championship four times (2009, 2011, 2012 and
2013). This is a direct reflection of the dedication put in
by Virginia.
Virginia is a full PGA Member, a member of the Australian Ladies
Professional Golf Incorporated and holds a Diploma in Sport
Coaching. She has also been a member of the Golf Queensland
Coaching Panel since 2008 and holds a National Coaching
Accreditation in Level 3.
Virginia has a proven track record in coaching and developing
golfers at all levels and motivating teams and individuals to
consistently surpass targets.
Congratulations on your well-deserved award Rebecca and best
of luck to Virginia. The Womensport Queensland Awards night
will be held 13 September 2013 in Brisbane.

Rebecca is currently ranked 9th on the Australian Amateur Girls’
Rankings and is the number one junior female golfer
in Queensland.
