From the CEO - Lindsay Ellis
Welcome to the Winter edition of the Q Golf Magazine.
At Golf Queensland, we are proud of the
schedule of events and the range of State-
based Championships we offer. With 25
tournaments on the Golf Queensland calendar
and 25 on the PresCare Queensland Senior
Order of Merit calendar, along with numerous
clinics and workshops, every year is a big year.
We are pleased to see participation in our
events growing from year to year. The 2017
Queensland Women’s Country Championship
has continued its dominance as Queensland’s
largest golf participation event with close
to 400 players travelling to the Golf Central
Queensland District.
Rockhampton Golf Club and Yeppoon Golf
Club played host to this year’s championship
with 60 clubs represented in the field.
Congratulations to all involved, it was a
tremendous success.
Following on from this, June is a big month
of events and sees Bargara Golf Club again
hosting the Qld Boys’ and Girls’ Amateur.
This is always a highly anticipated event on
the junior golfing calendar. This year is no
exception with the Boys’ competition full and
the Girls’ heading in the same direction. And
it is also great to see junior representation
from all states.
The big month continues with the Men’s and
Women’s Sand Green Championships to be
held at Blackall Golf Club and Hughenden Golf
Club respectively. These championships are
always highly anticipated as evidenced by the
number registrations to the two events.
This highlights that golf is certainly alive and
well in Queensland. Golf Queensland delivers
a diverse range of championships for amateurs
through to the Isuzu Queensland Open for
professionals. The Queensland Open is the
pinnacle of golf in Queensland and the event
has provided great publicity and promotion
for the game.
Participation in golf is central to ensuring our
game grows stronger. The strong participation
in our tournaments and events this year
is most encouraging and provides a good
indicator that interest competition golf is
on the rise. This is also supported by recent
participation data published by Golf Australia
indicating participation in club competition
rounds in Queensland increased by over 5%
last year.
It is pleasing to see more Queenslanders
enjoying more golf and competition is a great
way to socialise as well as challenge your
skills. No matter if you are a humble club
player or you are aiming to win one of our Golf
Queensland championships I wish you all the
best in golf this year.
Please enjoy this edition of QGolf
and happy golfing!
