QUEENSLAND YOUNG GUNS HEAD OVERSEAS TO TACKLE WORLD’S TOP AMATEUR TOURNAMENTS By Bernie Pramberg Karis Davidson S unshine Coast young guns Charlie Dann and Shae Wools-Cobb were the early starters as a number of elite Queensland amateurs launched their 2017 international campaigns. Shae Wools-Cobb Dann, ranked in the world’s top-50 amateurs, and Wools- Cobb opened their schedule in a One Asia Tour event in Korea during the first week of May. “They have both been playing well this year and are really good mates,’’ he said. “I think that brings out an edge of competitiveness between the two which is beneficial.’’ After their outing against the pros in Korea, where Wools- Cobb finished 61st and Dann failed to make the cut, the duo will be overseas for three months with the British and US Amateur Championships their prime focus. Meyer confirmed a number of other Golf Queensland squad members including Louis Dobbelaar, Karis Davidson, Becky Kay, DeeDee Russell and Gennai Goodwin were committed to play in the UK and America. Golf Queensland’s High Performance manager Tony Meyer expects both players to perform strongly in the international tournaments. “After Charlie and Shae finish in Britain they will play three or four events leading up to the US Amateur at Riviera,’’ he said. “During their time in the States they will also spend 12 Q Golf Winter 2017 www.golfqueensland.org.au
