Queenslanders in the spotlight (Continued) Badhwar triumphant at Tasmanian Junior Masters Queenslander Viraat Badhwar won the 2012 Schweppes Tasmanian Junior Masters with rounds of 69, 70, 76 and 72, a one-under-par total of 287. Western Australia’s Curtis Luck placed second on five-over-par with scores of 72, 74, 72 and 75. The leading Tasmanian was Smithton Golf Club Ben Elliott in ninth place with rounds of 72, 73, 72 and 81, a 10-over-par total of 298. Western Australia’s Hayley Bettencourt claimed the girls’ championship with rounds of 77, 74, 76 and 74, a13-over-par total of 301. Tasmanian Junior Masters Champion Viraat Badhwar Queenslanders one/two at SA Junior Amateur Queensland golfers Jake McLeod and Kade McBride took home the top two spots at the 2012 Golf SA Junior Amateur Champions last month. McLeod had a fine tournament shooting 76 for both rounds on the opening day at Kooyonga then adapted well to the Vines of Reynella layout carding a third round 2-under par 69, to be tied with Kade McBride (Burleigh) and Jack Williams (Grange) on (221) 6-over par. In the final round at The Vines in dry and breezy conditions, McLeod and McBride both went out in 36 – even with the card, with Williams two strokes further back. With four holes to play McBride edged out to three stroke lead courtesy of a birdie on the par 4 -12th and eagle 3 on the 462 metre par 5, 13th hole. McLeod then made his charge with birdies on the 15th, 16th and 17th holes to be one in front heading down the last. With McBride bogeying the hole, a par on the 18th was enough to seal victory by two strokes. SA Junior Amateur Champion Jake McLeod Captain’s Day Golf club captains are encouraged to attend the Golf Queensland Captain’s Day on March 23 at Nudgee Golf Club. The event provides an information session followed by lunch and 9-holes of golf.
