Queenslanders one/two at SA Junior Amateur
Queensland golfers Jake McLeod and Kade McBride took home the top
two spots at the 2012 Golf SA Junior Amateur Champions last month.
McLeod had a fine tournament shooting 76 for both rounds on the
opening day at Kooyonga then adapted well to the Vines of Reynella
layout carding a third round 2-under par 69, to be tied with Kade
McBride (Burleigh) and Jack Williams (Grange) on (221) 6-over par.
In the final round at The Vines in dry and breezy conditions, McLeod
and McBride both went out in 36 – even with the card, with Williams
two strokes further back. With four holes to play McBride edged out
to three stroke lead courtesy of a birdie on the par 4 -12th and eagle 3
on the 462 metre par 5, 13th hole.
McLeod then made his charge with birdies on the 15th, 16th and
17th holes to be one in front heading down the last. With McBride
bogeying the hole, a par on the 18th was enough to seal victory by
two strokes.
