about getting up a bashing a driver.
“They become aware they have got to chip,
putt and do all of those things. We have
set up the program on the driving range
with markers, flags and baskets and the
equipment is on the range all the time.
“That means the kids can not only do it
in their lesson, but they can come and
practice in their own time and get better at
that particular skills test. As a rough guide,
when the kids have worked through bronze
we put them into level 2 (silver) and that’s
when we take them on to the golf course.
“And at the end of every term and the
start of the school holidays we play 3-,
6- and 9-hole tournaments. The program
is a nice progression because it takes kids
from a very young age onto a driving range,
introduces them to the golf course, then
to the Greg Norman Golf Foundation and
membership at a golf club.”
Sean said more golf facilities should
adopt the MYGolf program through Golf
Queensland. “I haven’t been to a golf
course or driving range yet that shouldn’t
have juniors,” he said.
