Andrea Davis is doing what she
loves best - golfing
Andrea said the secret to keeping children
interested was to make the program fun.
Her new role at Golf Queensland came
about almost by accident.
“Lee Harrington (Golf Queensland’s
participation development officer) invited
me to a meeting about the program at Golf
Queensland and I said ‘wow, this is exciting’
and it went from there,” Andrea said.
“I absolutely love teaching kids. For me it
was about getting kids introduced to the
game at an early age. They may not take it
up then and there, but if you expose kids
to golf at an early enough age they can
always come back to it.
“My goal is to expose every child to golf
and give them the opportunity to play the
game. Golf is such a great game for kids
because of the honesty, integrity and the
life skills it provides.
“I have found a lot of school teachers
who play golf understand that and want
to introduce the game to their students.
When you meet someone like that and
have that connection, it makes the job so
much easier. Children who aren’t exposed
to the sport are missing out.”
Get involved in Community Coaching
Golf coaching can be a very rewarding experience for both the player trying to improve their skills,
and the coach assisting in the development of a golfer. Coaches are integral in golf because they
often provide the first experience for beginners and are vital in developing golfers of all standards.
The Community Coaching Course is designed for the beginner/intermediate coach and represents
a pathway into the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme. The target group includes school
teachers, golf club personnel, volunteers, parents and late secondary and tertiary students
interested in developing golf within their community.
