A Strong Start to 2026 by Shanna McKelvain
The first quarter of 2026 started strong for the PVF Young Professionals with a series of successful events that brought together industry leaders from across Texas. While these events foster networking, collaboration, and growth, they also provide an opportunity to recognize and honor the individuals who helped support and build the organization from its infancy.
January Social Event Kicks off the Year
January marked the first gathering of 2026, bringing together a variety of individuals for an evening of networking and relationship building at Christian’s Tailgate in Houston. For many, this was an opportunity to reconnect with customers and colleagues after the holidays, and attendees were eager to discuss market trends and predictions for the year ahead.
The Young Professionals head West
In February, the YPs headed to the Permian for the first West Texas social event of the year, held at Fair to Midland in Midland, Texas. Some participants even traveled from Houston to attend, which is a true testament to the continued growth and success of the West Texas chapter.
Attendees had the opportunity to engage with peers from different regions who share similar roles, allowing them to gain insight into—and appreciation for—the varying PVF markets across the Lone Star State.
8th Annual Sporting Clays Classic
Closing out the first quarter was the highly anticipated 8th Annual Sporting Clays Classic, an event that continues to grow in popularity as one of the YPs’ signature gatherings. Teams representing manufacturers, distributors, and end users came together for a day filled with friendly competition, networking, and beautiful weather.
Held at the Greater Houston Sports Club, the course is designed to challenge experienced shooters and first-time participants alike, making it enjoyable for all skill levels. First place was awarded to Team IPS, while the coveted “Dead Ass Last” trophy was claimed by Team SBD.
Beyond the sport itself, this event also serves an important purpose within our industry. Thanks to the generous support of sponsors and participants, funds raised from the event allowed for a sizeable donation to the PVF Roundtable Scholarship Fund. These scholarships support students pursuing education and careers related to oil and gas, helping ensure the longevity and future of our industry.

Honoring Sheryl Michalak MacRae
While the day was filled with fun and friendly competition, it also served as a time of remembrance for Sheryl Michalak MacRae, owner of WOI. Sheryl played an important role in supporting the Clay Shoot over the years, and her presence was deeply missed by many in attendance.
Sheryl took great joy in seeing the Young Professionals thrive, and no matter what the event, she was always willing to sponsor, donate, or host whenever possible. She truly cared about the future of the PVF industry and understood the importance of educating and engaging the next generation.
In Sheryl’s honor, the PVF Young Professionals introduced a new award in her memory recognizing the highest-scoring individual female shooter. Sheryl’s own stepdaughter, Ms. Katie Hendricks, was this year’s recipient, making the tribute even more special.
A special thank you goes to Courtney Riggs, Clay Wagner, and Saxon Doster for leading this event from beginning to end each year. As always, the Clay Shoot was flawlessly executed. Thank you as well to the volunteers, sponsors, and participants—without your continued support, this event would not be possible.
Looking Ahead to the Rest of 2026
If the first quarter is any indication of what the rest of 2026 will bring, the PVF Young Professionals can expect a year filled with networking opportunities and support that will continue to foster growth for the next generation of industry leaders.
Stay tuned for updates on the upcoming Bowling Tournament and the Q2 West Texas Social Event.
