Arlington Municipal Court to Launch Live Online Court Clerk Services
Arlington Community leaders and residents united virtually to honor Dr . Martin Luther King , Jr . and advance his vision during a four-day celebration held January 15-18 , 2021 .
In the latest Ask Arlington , MLK Committee Member Lemuel Randolph explained how celebrations looked different in 2021 , and how Dr . King ’ s dream lives on in The American Dream City . The committee made changes due to the spread of COVID-19 . Art and essay contest winners were formally recognized at an opening event on January 15th .
The celebration also included a step show , drum line showcase and a poetry-meetsjazz event .
The annual awards banquet was moved to a virtual event that was open to anyone who wanted to join the celebration . The theme was , “ Advancing the Dream : Unifying Our Nation .” In addition to a discussion with the Unity Council , led by Chair Dr . Jason Shelton , the opening ceremony also featured recognition of the art and essay contest winners , Advancing the Dream community award winners , collegiate scholarship recipients , United States Postal dedicated stamp and more .
The Arlington Municipal Court expanded its online virtual court services by providing a live online Court clerk via the Zoom platform .
This new service provides additional access to the Court and help with minimizing foot traffic at the Courthouse during COVID-19 . Clerks will be available to explain processes and procedures , answer questions , and provide options for handling violations . The new program allows defendants to receive many of the same services that they would receive if they were to come to the Court in person .
These virtual walk-in dockets play a vital role in ensuring access to the court while making every effort to avoid risks to the public health .
