A list of approved Local Landmarks has been available , but now , residents can see all the Local Landmarks in an interactive map developed by the City of Arlington . The map includes a photo of the structure and a short history of the Local Landmarks . Also included on the map are special areas of the City such as the Old Town Historic District , the South Center Street Historic District , and The Hill - Historic African American Community .
In conjunction with the launch of the map , the City has produced a video of a few of the Local Landmark properties . Be sure to check back regularly as the map and photo album will be updated with new Local Landmarks as they are approved .
Any property owner can apply for designation as a Local Landmark and receive a medallion or subject marker so the sites are easy to locate for residents , and visitors may enjoy them as well .. Applications are reviewed by the Landmark Preservation Commission and approved by City Council . If you would like to apply for a Local Landmark designation , the Commission can help research the property to prepare an application .
The Landmark Preservation Commission was excited to launch the Local Landmark Interactive Map as a part of the National Preservation Month celebration .
