Dear CPA Families, The past two years as Chair of the CPA Board of Trustees have passed quickly. This summer, I turned the reins over to Danny Herron, as incoming Chair, but I will remain on the Board for another year as Vice Chair. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to serve you, the CPA families and their students. I remain encouraged by CPA’s current climate and trajectory. The 2016-17 school and Board year was filled with progress, and I will take this opportunity to highlight four significant accomplishments toward the future. First, a five-year strategic plan has been completed and approved. With the oversight of the Board, the administrative team has been working on the “2022 Framework for the Future”. This fall, we will be sharing this information and the exciting plans therein. Second, senior administration completed the successful transition of leadership in the preschool, lower school, and in the position of academic dean. Further, with the encouragement of the Board, senior administrative leadership implemented a realignment of its management structure. The new structure reduces the number of direct reports to the Head of School from 13 to 3 and will enable many of the goals in the strategic plan to be implemented. Third, a 25-year Campus Master Plan was updated and approved by the Board and the CPC Session. This is the first of many steps toward a capital campaign. Behind the scenes, much preliminary work toward the campaign has been completed. Finally, as referenced in my letter last year, the expansion of the Board to twelve members and the implementation of a committee system is complete. In addition, the Board has implemented four-year terms for Trustees. Over the next 12 to 18 months, the Board will continue to develop the committee structure, and we anticipate expanding the number of committee members to include other members of the CPA community, beyond the CPC body. All the above falls under the Board’s three primary responsibilities: advancing the mission of CPA, oversight of administration and the head of school ensuring proper governance, and assuring the long-term viability and sustainability of the institution. On June 30, 2017, Kate Jackson and Gary Scudder completed their board terms. We are thankful for their faithful service and commitment. They and the current Trustees are links in a long chain of volunteer leadership spanning 27 years. We serve in light of that history and God’s call to love people, places, and things to life. Be encouraged to contact members of CPA Leadership with questions or concerns. May you have a blessed school year! Yours in Christ, Matthew A.
