Why Work Out?
WHY work out?
by Rob Wright
It does not take much research to see that physical exercise obviously benefits the human body in enumerable ways. A healthier you can resurrect confidence, mental focus, youthfulness, and lagging motivation. I could list, like so many other blogs, articles, and reports the tomes of tiresome scientific data that we have all seen over and over again. Has that evidence helped you move from the couch?
WHY work out? Why do you want these things? Why do you want more confidence, strength, aesthetic improvement, lower stress levels, etc? What is driving you to desire change?
Happiness. This is where it all comes together. When you are at ease, joyous, and fully present to your being-ness, life becomes effortless; even the concept of dragging yourself to a workout session becomes something you just might look forward to.
You are worth putting the time in for your pursuit of happiness, and in the end, there is nothing more pressing in your schedule than this endeavor. Too many of us are walking around, depressed and staggering through our days without a sense of meaning and joy. This is not a natural occurance! It is not the way of nature, not a way of the divine, and not the way to experience the physical world in which we live. Take time today to do something to improve your physical being by letting your spirit express through the body and embrace a rush of blood through your system. If you are fully present to this experience, you will wish to sustain it.
It is time to bring into balance the mind, body, and spirit. In much of our processes of doing this, we have unfortunately viewed them as all one entity. Many have spent their existential journey connecting to spirit or defeating the mind. In this process, the body gets neglected, cast off as some unfortunate prison we are trapped in or fleshly clothing we have to put up with. Some have escaped the body instead of freeing the body.
All three, mind, body, and spirit need to be heard and understood for what they are and what they represent in our earthly experience.
Just as you may ask your spirit what it desires, the same question should be posed to your physical nature. When this is done, in the still of the mind, the body will speak and show you the blueprint for its freedom. When this freedom happens, in conjunction with the freedom of mind and the spirit, which is already free, they will work in concert bringing ideal, complete wellness.
The key is not about defeating the mind or overcoming the body. All three aspects have an important role in your journey. Let each be free instead of trying to free yourself from them.
