The Blue Album
4.5
Review by Sean Coyle
Alternative RnB at its finest! That’s one way
to describe The Blue Album, and it is turning
out to be one of the coolest sounding albums
that music lovers have heard in a long time.
With a voice like Justin Timberlake and a look
like Jesus Christ JMSN (A.K.A Christian
Berishaj) has released his full sophomore
effort to great acclaim (his first album
†Priscilla† was released in 2012 followed by
2013’s †Pllajë† EP.
The set merges RnB with a soundscape of
every off shoot that the genre has to offer e.g.
Quiet Storm, Neo Soul, Trip Hop, Trance,
Jazz, Hip Hop and even a little Blues and fuses
it on a mellow journey of sonic pleasure “in
other words it’s make out music for people to
slow dance to, which is a rarity these days in
our impatient fast paced world as
contemporary music is all thump and bump.
Don’t get me wrong it’s great to dance but it
is also nice to trance” it seems the slow jam is
making a return. Some could say this album is
too long i would recommend just sit back and
enjoy (It’s a bit reminiscent of Joi’s 1994 The
Pendulum Vibe album, if you’re not familiar
look it up).
The 14 song set opens with My Way (it’s not
a Frank Sinatra cover) instead this is a kickstart for a continuous chill out stream segueing
from one song to another and its difficult to
single out one song as the album should be
treated as one profound piece but Street
Sweeper is the song i can’t get out of my head.
The Blue Album transcends all radio friendly
pop and is an artistic revelation in an era when
they are all too hard to come by. Of course
music depends on ones taste but this is
definitely worth a listen.
The Blue Album is available for download
now on itunes and is available in physical
format both CD and LP from the JMSN
website.
