Using Essential Oils
There are many ways to use dōTERRA essential oils. Safety is our top priority, so here is a simple reference guide to help you to use the oils in a safe and effective way.

‘ Hot oils’ such as Cassia, Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus, Oregano, and Thyme are some oils that must be diluted with a carrier oil before applying topically. When trying these for the first time, consider a dilution ratio of one drop of essential oil to 10 drops of Fractionated Coconut Oil.
When using an essential oil on your skin for the first time, it’ s a good idea to dilute with a carrier oil to see how the oil reacts with your skin. Start with one drop of essential oil and five drops of Fractionated Coconut Oil. You can personalise this ratio with time and experience.
Some essential oils can cause photosensitivity, which means that you may be more prone to sunburn. Refrain from exposure to UV light( sunlight or tanning beds) for at least 12 hours after applying them to your skin. These oils include Lemon, Wild Orange, Bergamot, Lime, Grapefruit, or other citrus oils.
