Today , we do not have a Republican Party that is operating in good faith . Since at least 2008 , Republicans have openly declared an obstructionist position and proudly unified in opposing anything and everything that could benefit the majority of Americans .
I would even go so far as to suggest that we currently have “ two parties ” but that they exist within the Democratic Party itself . We , on the Left , can have a debate without them . We can argue about whether the federal minimum wage should be $ 15 per hour or $ 24 per but we have a moral duty to shut down ( and shut out ) those who want to maintain a poverty-level $ 7.25 per hour federal minimum wage . There should be no seat at the table for them .
OUR VALUES
Fourth , we must learn how to effectively neuter the deliberate conservative strategy of using our values against us . We can render these tactics powerless and turn these predictable attacks to our advantage .
The American Right has figured out a way to use our values against us to shut us down for fear of appearing hypocritical .
It started simply enough with the “ intolerant of intolerance ” accusation but has escalated to much more difficult and complex issues . Issues of racism , sexism , equality - these are issues we hang our hats on .
