DATA DIVE

SPAS ’ RETAIL EFFORTS ARE ALSO SHIFTING as the industry turns its eyes to the second half of 2021 . Six in ten spas reported adding new brands to their retail offerings , and 43 percent said that they increased their overall retail inventory during the second quarter . Retail-oriented events were held by 14 percent of spas during that period .
Retail revenue per treatment saw significant year-over-year increases at most spas , with more than one-third ( 36 percent ) reporting gains of at least 10 percent , and 82 percent noting an increase overall . Once again , these gains align neatly with the increases in revenues and profits indicated by most spa respondents . Though the high number of closures during the second quarter of 2020 , along with the lack of Snapshot Survey data from that period , makes it somewhat difficult to pinpoint how spas current performance compares to prepandemic figures , but these results suggest that spas are largely heading in a better financial direction .

RESOURCE PARTNER ROUNDUP

THOUGH RESOURCE PARTNER performance did not quite reach the heights that spa performance did during the second quarter , it ’ s important to note that resource partners were often able to continue running their businesses in some form while spas were closed during the second quarter of 2020 . Still , 60 percent of resource partners reported an increase in overall gross revenues , with 46 percent indicating year-overyear increases of at least 20 percent . Profits were up as well for 61 percent of resource partner respondents , 27 percent of whom reported an improvement of at least 20 percent compared to the same period in 2020 .

60 %

OF RESOURCE PARTNERS REPORTED AN INCREASE IN OVERALL GROSS REVENUES .
