“ There is nothing permanent except change .” — HERACLITUS

I THINK WE CAN ALL AGREE with that quote after the last few years — what hasn ’ t changed ? And the McNees family is no exception ! My cute husband and I celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary in Jackson Hole this summer , back where it all began . It was a much-needed break after a crazy few years . Barry ( aka “ my cute husband ”) is taking a “ gap year ” after selling a development project that was a labor of 24 / 7 love for the last 15 years . Creating the Lexington Distillery District was a passion project for sure and one that has left a permanent mark in Lexington . It wasn ’ t always easy — he could write a book about the wild adventures that we endured . But endure we did ! I am beyond proud of him for never giving up and handling every unexpected obstacle with impeccable grace and a smile . We recently reread The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz and were reminded how much we love it .
As we strive to get back to the basics of what has been referred to as the “ new normal ,” let ’ s remember these four agreements to help us persevere and avoid unnecessary chaos . They ’ re common sense , but all-too easy to forget sometimes : 1 . Be impeccable with your word . 2 . Don ’ t take anything personally . 3 . Don ’ t make assumptions . 4 . Always do your best .
Though our world is constantly evolving , in my opinion those four principles should never change .
Cheers to common sense and never taking things personally ! n
