IN MEMORIAM
BY JENNIFER WAYLAND-SMITH
MARCH 7 , 1951 – MAY 10 , 2021
ON MAY 10 , 2021 , OUR INDUSTRY LOST ONE OF ITS MOST BELOVED SPIRITS , SUSAN WHEELER .
SUSAN AND I BECAME FAST FRIENDS when we first started at the end of the day for a cold beer or a glass of Pinot on the ISPA Board of Directors in 2005 . Early in our time serving Grigio . Susan was fond of Heineken , and that was usually her on the board , we began sharing a room at meetings , which first request . then led to sharing a room at the ISPA Conferences .
Susan had an everlasting love for her family ,
We developed our own particular ISPA horses , yoga and everything spa . She spent her
Conference routine : I would arrive first , get spa career ( 30 + years ) at the Equinox Resort in checked into the hotel and confirm our Manchester , Vermont . Knowing how often schedule for the various events , sessions and I had moved around the country for various activities for the week . Susan did not have the spa opportunities , I often joked with Susan that best sense of direction , so I ensured that she she was the only spa director I knew that had got to the sessions first thing in the AM … then worked in the same place for so long . she was on her own ! I know that one of her favorite I considered Susan my spa bestie over the years , parts of the annual conference was connecting and and I — like so many others — will miss her dearly ! In the reconnecting with all of her spa friends and speeps — short for time since her passing , our spa family has provided some “ spa peeps ”— while wandering the expo floor . We would beautiful notes remembering Susan via Facebook and are typically meet up for lunch on the expo floor and then connect shared on the next page .

Susan brought smiles to the faces of countless " spa peeps " over the years .
