Those figures are no doubt sobering to spa leaders whose business performance is tied up to a significant degree in the travel and tourism sectors . However , McKinsey ’ s report also notes there are multiple factors that will determine how quick and strong the recovery is . Chief among those ? The attractiveness of domestic destinations . While that may be discouraging news for spas in countries where support from the domestic market is already low , it should provide at least some relief to those in areas guests can easily reach by car . A separate report from the World Travel and Tourism Council in September of 2020 reported that 71 percent of Americans will favor domestic travel in 2021 , up from 58 percent in 2020 . The report also claimed that nearly half ( 47 percent ) of Americans are considering in-state road trips for their next vacation .
