Ilook forward to Conference all year and I hope it stirs the same excitement within you. It’ s an energizing time to come together and celebrate the industry, the association and each other. It’ s the perfect time to look back at the past year and to begin looking forward to what the next year has in store. Conference also brings with it a changing of the guard of sorts. It’ s the time of year when Foundation Board officers change and we have to say goodbye to those whose term is ending.
I would like to thank our lone member rotating off the board— Cathy Cluff of The Oaks at Ojai. She has served as the board’ s vice president and has played a huge role in ensuring the Foundation’ s mission is carried out. We will truly miss her and appreciate all of her many contributions; however, I look forward to her continued involvement in the association.
Stepping into the role of vice president will be Sharilyn Abbajay of Marriott International. She has been an active member of ISPA for years, serving on both the ISPA Board of Directors and the Foundation Board. She also has an amazing passion for the spa industry and for ISPA, so I know she’ s going to do a great job.
Calvin Martin of Calvin Martin & Company, PLLC will continue to serve as the Secretary / Treasurer. He has been such an integral part of the Foundation Board and has devoted so much time to help the Foundation carry out its mission. From serving as an officer to helping bring educational resources, like Financial Management for Spas and Risk Management for Spas, to fruition, he has had a huge impact and will continue to do so.
I’ m honored to work with all the Foundation Board members and hope you will join me in thanking them for the time they dedicate to bring valuable educational opportunities to spa industry professionals. I look forward to working with them in the coming year on new endeavors like consumer research.
I’ d like to close with some very exciting news. Red Door Spas has generously donated $ 10,000 to the consumer research project. These funds, along with a $ 5,000 donation from Massage Envy, will help make consumer research available to ISPA members. Massage Envy also generously donated an additional $ 5,000 to the Dr. Howard Murad Research Grant fund, another valuable research initiative. Thank you to both Red Door Spas and Massage Envy for their generosity.
This generosity has made it possible for the Foundation to release the first piece of the consumer research project at Conference. You can also play a role in helping fund these research initiatives by getting out those checkbooks and bidding at the Foundation Auctions. It’ s all in the name of fun and for a good cause, so be generous!
