As of January 2011, referred guests from more than 550 cancer centers attended the Greet the Day, Spa Day Retreat. If i can share one business lesson, it would be: Empower your employees…combined, they are a lot smarter than you! I plan to continue to make an impact in the spa industry by: Dreaming up new and creative ways to serve the community; bringing [the benefits of] spa to more people. The most challenging part of my job is: Never, ever, let others see me sweat or see a chink in the armor—some days are tough! Through the years, I’ve seen the spa evolved as: An industry of pampering to an industry of wellness. The one thing that surprises me about today’s spa consumers is: Nothing surprises me! If there’s one pressing issue the spa industry needs to address collectively, it would be: The importance of good nutrition to achieve optimum health and beauty. I envision tomorrow’s spa leaders to be: Smart business people with a conscience and good stewards of their communities. My leadership philosophy is: Empower others, be clear, decisive, firm but fair. 62 PULSE ■ November 2011 I define “success” as: Having made a positive impact on the community and to my staff. I motivate my team by: Sharing in the decision-making process, celebrating successes, and joining together to serve the community. The one skill I pledge to work on is: Keep my focus on the big goals; don’t get bogged down by small stuff. The toughest decision I’ve ever made was: To become an entrepreneur. It takes guts! The person that inspires me most is: My dad—hardworking, respectful, grateful and loving. Few people know that I: Was in the 70s movie Fraternity Row, starring Scott Newman (Paul Newman’s son) and other notables. Also, my secret ambition is to become a singer! My goal before I retire is to: Serve in SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) and coach other entrepreneurs or new managers. My fitness routine includes: Daily exercise, from [going to the] gym, yoga, or [taking a] long walk on the beach with my golden retriever “Honey” and my hubby. My favorite spa treatment is: Fassage—Spa Gregorie’s massage and facial combo service. I always make time for: Prayer and a nap! ■
