COMPILED BY CHRISTINE SCHILLING @SodashiSkinCare Fake it, don’t bake it! W ith nearly four million registered users, Pinterest has experienced rapid growth since its launch in 2010. The site’s innovative design allows users to organize and share their favorite online images, recipes, decorating/craft ideas and more. WHERE TO BEGIN: To create an account, one must first be invited by Pinterest to join the community. Once an account is created, a member can upload images, referred to as “Pins” which are placed on customized, themed Boards that can be shared with a member’s followers. Pinterest’s edge is its ability to give users the power to determine what is “hot or in.” In addition to sharing “Pins” with followers, Pinterest allows users to link their Facebook and Twitter accounts with their Pinterest account to increase social networking opportunities. WHO’S ON IT: Given that Pinterest’s audience is mainly women, ages 25 to 45, spas in particular have a great opportunity to reach new clientele and drive loyalty, product preference and purchases of current customers. One current ISPA member who’s already on Pinterest is COOLA Suncare which uses the tool to help promote the resorts, spas and retailers that carry the COOLA brand. Tyler Porteous, the Marketing /International Sales Manager of COOLA says, “We see Pinterest as less of a product-oriented sharing tool and more of a branding tool. It’s a chance to unite like-minded people and bring everyone to the COOLA lifestyle! [Though] it’s a constant work in progress, we are starting to see some really great results.” Sun damage is the number one cause for wrinkles.
