I
t’s just March, but the ISPA Foundation has been hard at
work. By now, I hope you all have had a chance to read
the International SPA Association Foundation Spa
Consumer Snapshot Initiative that is available free to ISPA
members. Through generous donors and the success of the
2011 ISPA Foundation Auctions, this initiative was made
possible. Included within the snapshot is invaluable insight
into a sample of the U.S. population at a moment in time.
Key findings include:
● A key list of influences on why spa-goers return to spas.
● Valuable insight into how discounting can entice non spa-goers to visit a spa.
● Factors that make a spa experience memorable.
This is the first piece of the ongoing initiative. It’s going to take additional snapshots to really get a clear picture of consumer behavior and trends. Please consider
donating to the Foundation so this valuable research initiative continues which in
turn helps to build a stronger spa industry.
Not only does research like the Consumer Snapshot Initiative grow our industry,
but so do the future industry leaders. We must continue to arm them with education and our support. The application for the 2012 Mary Tabacchi Scholarship is
now available online. This $2,500 scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate who
is working towards a spa-related degree with an interest in spa management. Check
out the ISPA Foundation area of experienceispa.com to see the full list of criteria for
applicants.
It’s very important that we, as spa professionals, support these future leaders by
donating to the ISPA Foundation. On that note, I leave you with the following
quote from an unknown author, “Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do
something.”
