December_Pulse12 11/14/12 4:15 PM Page 2 FROM THE CHAIRMAN I love the ISPA Conference! Each year, my soul is fed with the renewal of friendships, the beginning of many more and the camaraderie of my colleagues. I come away bursting with new ideas, new energy and a sense of purpose that propels me through the upcoming year. But while these are all well and good, at the end of the day, it’s about how I follow through on those new relationships and apply the learning in concrete ways that makes the biggest difference. So I thought I’d share with you some of my ISPA Conference takeaways and how they have resulted in immediate changes in my business and personal life. REVIEW THE PAST WEEK AND PLAN AHEAD. Deborah Szekely exhorted us to put aside time to review the past week and plan the upcoming one. With this in mind, I often tell my younger employees, “You are the CEO of you!” This is also my own reminder that I am the CEO of both my personal and work life, so I need to find the time to slow down, reflect and plan my next move strategically. GET ON A 20-MILE MARCH. Jim Collins’ “20-mile March” is really pushing me forward with my fitness goals in which I take small, yet steady steps, toward reaching them. On the professional side, we at Wynn and Encore Las Vegas spas have greatly improved our data collection process in order to help us analyze our business. But data and analysis alone aren’t good enough. You’ve got to use what the data is telling you to fire bullets in your business plan. As I’m in the middle of this process, Jim’s words are helping me and my team stay focused and disciplined. LEARN TO STEP BACK TO GET ELEVATION. Peter Sheahan said we don’t need a crystal ball to predict PHOTO © TIFFANY BROWN the future, we just have to step back to see what’s already emerging—then seize it! The Las Vegas Spa Association is working with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to do just that as we plan ways to market our fair city in a brand-new light. SHARE A SENSE OF GRATITUDE. Finally, Louis Schwartzberg reminded me to approach every day with a new sense of gratitude. From the moment I wake up, I remind myself that each Read digital Pulse on experienceispa.com to see a video of Stimpson on stage at the General Session at this year's ISPA Conference & Expo. day is a unique gift and, by opening myself up to gratitude, I am experiencing the world again with an open heart. It is so rewarding! I hope you’ve all had some unique takeaways that are changing your life and business in incremental or even big and bold ways. Let us hear from you in our new ISPA Blog so you can share your experiences with us all and continue the spirit of “inspire” all year long! ® —ELLA STIMPSON, ISPA CHAIRMAN 2012 ISPA BOARD OF DIRECTORS OFFICERS DIRECTORS CHAIRMAN Ella Stimpson Wynn and Encore Las Vegas Sharilyn Abbajay Abbajay Collection, LLC VICE CHAIRMAN Michael Tompkins Miraval Resort & Spa SECRETARY/TREASURER Todd Walter Red Door Spas 2 PULSE ■ Kristi M.
